What is a THATCamp?
THATCamp is an open, inexpensive meeting where humanists and technologists of all skill levels learn and build together in sessions proposed by the participants on the spot. You can learn more about THATCamps and the underlying principles on the THATCamp website.
Why THATCamp ASECS2012?
Last summer, at THATCamp CHNM there were a number of people who started chatting about things digital related to eighteenth-century studies. Generally speaking THATCamps are very conducive environments for cooking up schemes and making plans, and so the idea for holding a short (one day) THATCamp in association with ASECS was formed.
Scholars of the eighteenth century in both history and literature are very well provided with resources for digital scholarship. With more and more interesting and innovative projects coming online all the time THATCamp ASECS2012 will offer the opportunity to exchange knowledge and ideas about the use of technology for research and teaching.
We are planning a couple of workshops during the day, geared toward people who are new to the digital humanities and have an interest in exploring some of the basics. These will be hands-on how-to sessions to give participants a taste of doing research with digital tools. More details will be forthcoming here in the next couple of weeks.
Remember, you don’t have to be attending ASECS to attend. THATCamp ASECS2012 is free and open to anyone with an interest any aspect of the digital humanities.
